Hello and welcome to the Jerahn roleplaying forum! If you are reading this, you have either found your way here by some happy accident, or you have been kidnapped and brought here by me or my friends. Either way, we're happy you're here, and we hope you like it.
So! Jerahn was invented by my sister and me a few years ago as a sort of play-world where we could act out our anthro/sci-fi daydreams. (What's anthro? Look here: www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=anthro ) Here, animals can walk and talk just like people, and they even wear clothes and use advanced technology!
In our original story, the central plotline for Jerahn goes something like this:
In the beginning, there was a highly acclaimed biologist named Dr. Friedrich Bauenhoffer who lived on Earth. His skills in genetic research were known throughout the world. One day, he realized that he had discovered the key to splicing human and animal DNA. Naturally, he feared public outcry against his precious work. So, to avoid the lawsuits he knew would eventually come, he built a large spaceship (he was a very smart man and could do anything), filled it with thousands of various animals, and took off into space.
After months of lightspeed travel, he came across a beautiful Earth-like planet, and there he decided to stay. The planet was the perfect place for him to continue his research, and that is just what he did, naming the planet Jerahn. His anthros grew steadily into an extremely advanced society, and peace reigned.
Things were so calm that Dr. Freddy (as he came to be known) went back to Earth to gather more kinds of animals. When he returned to Jerahn, however, he found the planet in chaos. The warm-blooded animals and the cold-blooded animals had turned against each other. To this day, no one knows how the war started, but each side blames the other. The birds, however, remain aloof in their own society and will have nothing to do with the fighting. It seems that because the anthros are half-men, their hearts became corrupted, causing discord among them.
Anyway, Dr. Freddy sent his new species to the other, nearby planets to form untouched societies of their own. They were discovered after a while, of course, but the war itself never reached their soil. At least, not yet...
So that's pretty much it for the history. And now, on to the important stuff!
Within Jerahn's culture, there is somthing like a heirarchy. A Jerahnian addresses someone above him in power as Alpha (usually the aristocracy), and someone below him as Beta (like executives). One below Beta is a Gamma (the middle class). Someone at the bottom of the social ladder is an Omega. This system applies to the armies, also, but it's all relative. A pilot is addressed as Beta by his senior pilot, but his mechanic calls him Alpha, and the unit commander would call the pilot Gamma. "Omega" is an insult in the army. The system takes some getting used to.
Dr. Freddy still continues his research on the planet Wunn (the original planet; there are now six others). This means that he will occasionally kidnap a Jerahnian for study, then drop them back off, usually with a few changes. Some Jerahnians have been given special abilities, making them a kind of superhero class above the heirarchy. These "supers" are free to do whatever they want--that is, whatever is legal, and as long as they help society.
The creatures on all the other planets besides Wunn are known as "Aliens" and usually shunned because of their unnatural appearances, characterized by freaky eyes and usually neon colors. You can read more about them on their home planets.
Technology is futuristic by Earth standards, and almost everything is powered by a glowy, crystal-like substance called Fowra that combusts slowly with pressure. This process is sped up to make ammunition for laser guns and the like. Flying cars and motorbikes abound, as well as starfighters and other spacecraft.
Because of their over-stimulating properties, caffeine and catnip are both illegal in the Jerahn system. However, there are those who smuggle the stuff from planet to planet, and some authorities can be bribed to turn a blind eye.
Currency is in Credits on most of the planets, but some tribal units have a bartering system.
Well, that's pretty much it! I hope you have a wonderful time roleplaying!
